WORLD OCEAN DAY – OCEAN EMERGENCY FOR MANKIND

Today is World Ocean Day and I was delighted to participate in a debate about the importance of our oceans.

Covering 70% of the Earth’s surface, yet only a small portion of its waters have been explored. Despite humanity’s utter reliance on it, it receives only a fragment of our attention and resources.

Following the success of Sir David Attenborough’s “Blue Planet” series, we are much more aware of why our oceans matter – it is the case that our living world cannot operate without a healthy ocean and neither can we.

The health of our oceans is at tipping point and we need to unite globally to protect our oceans, and sustainably manage them.
