The Scottish Government is rolling out free school meals for all primary school children whilst the Labour Party - in yet another broken promise - is refusing to commit to matching this, citing "affordability" as an obstacle.

Meanwhile the Tory Government at Westminster has had to be dragged kicking and screaming into providing universal free school meals just for those in early years and primary one and two.

There is a clear link between undernourishment and lower reading standards, and therefore lower attainment, but the London parties seem unwilling to tackle this.

However, both agree that writing a blank check - potentially for over £600billion - is a priority.

Once again, when it comes to the issues that matter to the people of Scotland, the Tories and Labour are out of step with them.
