THE UK GOVERNMENT SWINDLES SCOTLAND OVER COUNCIL TAX
In February the Chancellor of the Exchequer promised a £150 Council Tax rebate for homes in bands A to D in England. The Barnet Consequentials for equivalent Council Tax payers in Scotland meant the Treasury committed to the allocation of £290m to Scotland. This commitment was twice confirmed by the UK Chancellor.
After the Scottish Government pledged to allocate this £290 million to implement a similar scheme, the UK Government shamefully withdrew this money, and this shortfall means that this Council Tax rebate to help tackle the cost of living in Scotland will have to be found from elsewhere from the Scottish budget which is fixed and must - by law – be balanced every year .
I challenged the Leader of the House of Commons on this Tory Council Tax swindle and you can watch his petty and shameful response below 👇.
