UK GOVERNMENT RESPONSE ON UKRAINE REFUGEE CRISIS LACKS URGENCY AND FLEXIBILITY
The UK Government’s response to the growing Ukrainian refugee crisis has been woeful. While the changes to the UK visa process for Ukrainians announced by Home Secretary Priti Patel yesterday are welcome, they simply do not go far enough, and there is a real lack of urgency and flexibility from the UK Government as Ukrainians flee for their lives.
More than two million people have left Ukraine since the Russian invasion. Whilst EU nations have waived visa requirements for all Ukrainian refugees for up to three years, two weeks into this conflict the UK Government continues to insist on lengthy bureaucratic checks
Unless we see UK Government action on this improved, history will judge the UK response to this humanitarian crisis harshly
