UK GOVERNMENT OUT OF TOUCH ON ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
In Westminster I pointed the dread felt in so many of our communities as Bonfire Night approaches. While this occasion can be enjoyable for many, sadly unsafe and anti-social misuse of fireworks continues to be a real cause of concern for communities, particularly for the elderly and those with pets.
While the regulation of the use of fireworks is devolved to the Scottish Parliament, regulating the sale of fireworks remains reserved to Westminster.
No one wants to ban fireworks but the failure of the Leader of the House to appreciate the disruption caused to communities due to the irresponsible use of fireworks is staggeringly out of touch. The regulation of the sale of fireworks must be devolved to Scotland so that we can better protect our communities from this anti-social scourge.
