UK GOVERNMENT MUST RESPECT POWERS OF SCOTS’ PARLIAMENT

The UK Government’s ‘flagship’ Levelling-up and Regeneration Bill cuts across devolved responsibilities in the Scottish Parliament and is yet another example of the Tories riding roughshod over devolved powers.

The SNP’s Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the Economy has formally written to the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Michael Gove, expressing her dismay about the UK Government’s lack of engagement with the Scottish Government in the drafting of this Bill which seeks to impose the will of the UK Government in devolved areas of responsibility.

I challenged the Secretary of State to meet with representative of the Scottish Parliament specifically to discuss the democratic imperative of respect for Scotland’s democratically elected Government.
