UK GOVERNMENT MUST PLAY A FULL PART IN TACKLING GLOBAL MALNUTRITION
One in nine of the world’s population, 820 million people, suffer from malnutrition with one quarter of children globally suffering permanent damage due to this scourge. 45% of child deaths globally are linked to extreme hunger.. Wealthy countries have a moral duty to help poorest people on earth. To reduce aid at any time, particularly as climate change wreaks havoc on food supplies in developing countries, would be wrong, but to do so in the middle of a global health pandemic, which makes the developing world all the more vulnerable is truly shocking.
Malnutrition is a threat multiplier in developing countries. It is a violent and corrosive social injustice that is morally inexcusable and politically and economically unsustainable. I urged the UK Government to play its full part in international efforts to tackle this scourge. Watch my speech below.
