UK GOVERNMENT MUST MATCH SNP’S AMBITION ON TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE

In the course of the next Parliament, the SNP plan to put £1.6 billion into decarbonising the way buildings are heated in Scotland, which ambitiously equates to one third of all homes by 2030. This action will be vital in tackling climate change, as heating homes is a significant contributor to our climate emissions.

I asked the UK Government Minister for Housing why his Government is failing to match Scotland’s level of ambition when it comes to decarbonising our homes. Across the whole UK, the UK Government is investing only one third of what the Scottish Government is investing in decarbonising homes in Scotland. The Housing Minister’s response simply failed to acknowledge this or the fact that despite his swagger at the dispatch box, the UK Government’s efforts here are poor and they are unlikely to meet their own targets of decarbonising homes by 2050

We cannot delay our action to tackle the climate emergency, and the UK Government must act now to reduce emissions.
