UK GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO FAIL THOSE EXCLUDED FROM COVID SUPPORT SCHEMES

I participated in a Westminster debate regarding the UK Government’s complete lack of support for more than 3 million workers throughout the Covid pandemic.

While the furlough scheme has been welcome for those who have received support, far too many people have been excluded from access to such this lifeline, left to fend entirely for themselves and their families financially during this unprecedented health crisis. In fact, the self-employed support scheme failed to help the majority of self-employed workers, such were the restrictive requirements of the scheme, forcing small businesses to go bust and pushing many individuals into financial distress.

The Prime Minister promised to put his “arms around every single worker” when the pandemic struck however, the three million excluded from all UK Government support feel understandably let down and abandoned.
