U.K. GOVERNMENT MUST STOP PUTTING PROFIT BEFORE YEMENI LIVES

I again challenged the UK Government on its ongoing arms sales to Saudi Arabia for use in their catastrophic war in Yemen and called on the Government instead to focus on diplomacy and aid.

More than 100,000 people have died in the war in Yemen, including tens of thousands from disease and famine, while 80% of Yemenis – 24 million people – are in urgent need of food and healthcare. Despite this, the UK Government continues to unlawfully sell arms to the Saudis while slashing aid spending in Yemen by 50%.

The UN has stated that the UK is aiding and assisting the catastrophe in Yemen, but it is not too late for a change in policy. The UK Government must urgently suspend all arms sales to Saudi Arabia and restore all necessary aid to Yemen, or yet more innocent lives will be lost due the decisions of this Government.
