TRIPLE LOCK PROMISE BROKEN, PLUNGING MORE PENSIONERS INTO POVERTY

This week I lodged an Early Day Motion in Westminster urging the UK Government to restore the Triple Lock on the State Pension.

Despite retaining the Triple Lock being a key Tory pledge at the last election, it has now been abandoned, leaving many pensioners approximately £520 worse off over the next year.

This matters because it is the only way to guarantee that pensions are not eroded by inflation.

As inflation looks set to rise to 7% and as the cost of living crisis bites and energy prices soar, many of our older people will simply be unable to afford to heat their homes this winter.

This is only the latest attack on our older people and I continue to urge the UK Tory Government to restore the Triple Lock as more than 2 million pensioners across the UK are already living in poverty, up 31% since 2013/14 according to Age UK WASPI - Women Against State Pension Inequality Campaign Cunninghame WASPI
