TORIES SO-CALLED “FLAGSHIP” POLICY INCOMPATIBLE WITH AUSTERITY ON STILTS

The UK Government’s so-called flagship policy of levelling up across the UK is fatally undermined by its other agenda of austerity on stilts.

Levelling Up is so important to the Tory Government that it did not even meriting a mention in the Chancellor’s autumn statement earlier this month.

The reality is that it is impossible to level up in any meaningful way if austerity is a priority for this UK Government.

I challenged the UK Government about its lack of a long-term commitment to levelling up. Instead of providing reassurance, the Secretary of State chose to suggest that SNP MPs are somehow being hypocritical in supporting levelling up bids in their own constituencies, whilst Scotland suffers significant cuts to its budget.
