TORIES’ BREXIT OBSESSION LEAVES SUPERMARKET SHELVES EMPTY

The consequences of the Tories’ dangerous Brexit obsession is clear as we see a chronic shortage of HGV drivers which are essential to our supply chain of goods. Many supermarkets are unable to secure the delivery of goods which we all expect to find on their shelves. This harmful policy has been exacerbated by the recklessly irresponsible decision to proceed with a hard-Brexit in the midst of the Covid19 pandemic.

The Tories claim that these shortages have nothing to do with Brexit are hollow. No European supermarkets are currently experiencing shortages nor did we in the UK until Brexit. I challenged the Transport Secretary on how ending Free Movement and the UK Government’s hostile environment policy towards immigrants who often work in essential services, has exacerbated the shortage of HGV drivers in the UK, which has disrupted the delivery of goods to our shops..
