TIME TO BAN CRUEL AND UNNECESSARY SNARES

The welfare of wildlife is devolved and the rules in place across the UK vary with regard to the use of snares as a tool to control foxes and rabbits in order to protect livestock, crops and wild birds.

The use of snares in Scotland is heavily regulated but even so-called humane snares cause terrible injuries and suffering for animals. With effective alternatives available, the inflicting of unnecessary suffering on any creature is simply unacceptable and that is why the Scottish Government is working to potentially ban snaring as has been done in many other countries.

I urged the UK Government to do the same in England. All creatures in the UK should be protected from this cruel and unnecessary practice.
