TAX BURDEN ON FUEL DRIVES INFLATION

Ahead of the Chancellor’s Spring Statement, I again raised the issue of motorists being taxed twice on their fuel.

High fuel costs don’t just impact on motorists, but is a driver of inflation across the whole economy. But motorist face a double tax whammy, paying fuel duty and VAT on top as well - effectively paying a tax on a tax.

I called on the UK Government to give motorists a break as well as tackling inflation. Cutting fuel duty will help hard-pressed motorists as well as supporting growth across the whole economy.
