SUPPORTING ESSENTIAL LOCAL WORKERS
I am disappointed to learn that local workers at the Defence Munitions depot in Beith have been forced to announce two days of industrial action on 4th and 7th August due to a “two tier workforce” at the base. Currently, managers and craft workers receive bonuses while non-craft workers do not.
Those workers affected are vital to the operation of the depot which supplies equipment to the UK’s armed forces and deserve to be recognised as such.
The planned strikes will be the first ever such action in the history of Defence Equipment and Support and I have called on the UK Government’s Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace, to use his good offices to secure a speedy and fair resolution to this dispute. See my letter below 👇.
