DEBATING THE IRISH DIASPORA

Like so many Scots, I am proud of my Irish heritage and was delighted to take part in a debate on the Irish diaspora in the UK to mark St Patrick's Day.

2022 is a significant year for Ireland as it marks 100 years as an independent, self-governing country. Since her independence, Ireland has grown into a confident, prosperous, outward looking country – one of the richest in Europe. Independent of the UK, it has prospered, finding its place on the world stage, an internationally respected nation and European Union member.

Many would never have envisioned how far an independent Ireland would come in 100 years, and it stands as a beacon of the possibilities and potential that await Scotland when we take our own future into our own hands.
