SOARING STANDING ENERGY CHARGES DISPROPORTIONATELY HITS LOWER INCOME HOUSEHOLDS
As energy prices are set to rise again next month, I raised the issue of standing charges on domestic energy bills in the House of Commons. For those whose energy usage is low, the standing charge will make up around a quarter of their entire electricity bill.
I called on the Leader of the House to set out his plans to discuss scrapping these charges with the energy regulator OFGEM so that consumers can more easily and simply compare costs charged by energy providers.
