SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT PROVIDES BEST PAY OFFER TO TEACHERS IN WHOLE UK

With schools across England facing continued disruption due to strike action following the UK Government’s latest below inflation pay offer, head teachers in English schools have spoken out about the crisis in teaching recruitment, as teachers feel undervalued and underpaid relative to their counterparts in Scotland.

The Scottish Government acted swiftly and constructively to negotiate a fair pay deal for teachers in Scotland whilst the UK Government fails to properly engage with teaching unions in England.

I called on the Education Secretary to match the offer made by the Scottish Government which will see most Scottish teachers’ pay rise by 14.6 per cent and deliver a starting salary of £39,000 whilst the starting salary for teachers in England is a much less £30,000
