RETIRMENT AGE OF PRISON OFFICERS IS UNSAFE AND UNREALISTIC

The retirement age for prison officers continues to be completely unsafe and unrealistic. These officers who, by definition work with the most violent and dangerous criminals up until they reach the age of 68 are the forgotten and invisible emergency service.

This unrealistic retirement age is undoubtedly impacting on the retention and recruitment of prison officers so I once again highlighted this issue with the UK Government, which is a real health and safety challenge for these officers.
