PENSIONER POVERTY SET TO RISE AS TRIPLE LOCK ABANDONED
I have again urged the UK Government to stop attacking pensioner incomes this week during a debate on the Social Security (Up-rating of Benefits) Bill, highlighting that the Tories’ abandonment of the link between earnings and pensions is truly disgraceful.
This measure smashes their triple-lock Tory manifesto commitment, and amendments put forward by the SNP requiring the legislation to be assessed for its impact on pensioner poverty have been voted down by a Tory Government whilst Labour abstained.
The attacks on our pensioners’ continue but I and my SNP colleagues continue to stand up for pensioners.
