Trust in politics continues to be undermined by the fact that peerages can be awarded to failed politicians, pals and cronies by both former Prime Ministers and Leaders of the Opposition.

Liz Truss has been reported to have submitted 14 names in her resignation honours list, equating to one name for every four days she spent in office as Prime Minister, during which time she crashed the economy, brought pensions to the brink of collapse and sent interest rates soaring.

We have already witnessed the grubby reality of disgraced former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson handing out peerages to his pals and covid partygoers.

In the House of Commons I asked if anyone in Government thought this was inappropriate in any way and if it would help improve trust in politics.

Shamefully, the response was predictable. 👇
