I am bewildered and disappointed by the way the hugely successful Employment Fayre in Saltcoats Town Hall, organised by myself and Kenneth Gibson MSP, on Friday last, was reported by the A&S Herald. I have raised my concerns directly with the editor.

We sent information to the paper about it - including details of our other previous 10 successful employment fayres - but the Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald strangely chose to report that we “backed” this event (what on earth does that actually mean?) instead of organising it. In addition, it seems we had nothing to do with the previous 10 events!

I wonder why the paper is so reluctant to tell their readers we worked so hard to deliver this event for our constituents? In addition, Kenneth and I were at the event for the whole three hours it lasted, as we should have been as the event organisers. However, you would not think from the photos accompanying the article, that we were even present! Photographer Charlie Gilmour took loads of photos but maybe none of those with myself and/or the MSP turned out, for some reason. That would be a very sad coincidence indeed.

Whilst some folk may not think that committed local representation matters, neither Kenneth nor I are of that view. That is why I think it is important that even when some people may disagree with our politics, it is only right that working hard for our constituents is not dismissed as though it does not matter. Sadly, it seems the A&S Herald does not agree. How disappointing!
