MINISTER FLOUNDERS OVER QUESTION ON ARMS SALES FOR SAUDI SLAUGHTER IN YEMEN

With US President Joe Biden announcing an end to “all American support for offensive operations in the war in Yemen, including relevant arms sales” pressure is mounting on the UK Government to follow suit. Throughout the seven-year war that has cost over 100,000 Yemeni lives and a shocking humanitarian crisis, the UK Government appears to care more about profiting from war and death than it cares about Yemeni lives and suffering.

The UK Government claims it provides training to the Saudi-led coalition to avoid civilian casualties and prevent Saudi Arabia from breaching international humanitarian law, but there is no sign this has reduced the death toll of air raids. I therefore asked how the Government can justify not only profiting from the war through arms deals, but also how it can continue to spend millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money to bolster Saudi forces.
