LEVELLING UP DOES NOT DELIVER FOR COMMUNITIES

I raised the fact that the levelling up funding awarded to North Ayrshire three years ago to upgrade the B714 has still not been delivered. In addition, the sum awarded now falls far short of what is required due to the impact of inflation on the costs of materials, labour etc.

I have been pursuing this with the Levelling Up Secretary of State insisting this is a matter for the Secretary of State for Transport and the Secretary of State for Transport insisting it is a matter for the Secretary of State for Levelling Up.

Finally, the Levelling Up Secretary has agreed to a meeting about this. I await progress after three years.

What does levelling up even mean, if not the delivery of much-needed resources for infrastructure, given that Scotland’s capital budget has been slashed by 20% over the next five years? Smoke and mirrors.....
