LET’S LOOK OUT FOR OUR POSTIES!

It was good to meet with Royal Mail’s National Health and Safety Convenor and Communication Workers’ Union Representative, Dave Joyce, to discuss the major safety hazard and concern for postmen and women across the UK which is attacks from dogs as they work to deliver our mail.

As Royal Mail returns to ‘business as usual’ on deliveries, the trend is that dog attacks are on the increase with a number of serious attacks occurring in recent weeks and months. Indeed, there are 6 dog attacks on postal workers across the UK every day.

The key objectives of raising awareness of this hazard for our posties is to remind the public to be aware of their responsibilities

as a responsible dog owner and to remind our postal worker members not to drop their guard, to be alert to dog risks and be vigilant, keeping safe and taking no risks as they deliver to the UKs 30 million addresses daily.
