HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY 2022

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day. This week I signed the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust’s Book of Commitment, to pledge my commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day, honouring those who were murdered during the Holocaust as well as paying tribute to the extraordinary Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people today.

This year marks 77 years since the liberation of the concentration camps of Europe at the end of the Second World War. On the 27th January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, people across the globe will remember. As the Holocaust moves from living history, to history, it becomes ever more important that we remember the six million Jewish victims and pay tribute to the survivors.

In the lead up to and on Holocaust Memorial Day, we remember all the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides. The theme for this year’s commemorations is ‘One Day’ as we seek to build a world where, one day, there will be a future with no genocide.
