GROWING INEQUALITY DEMANDS ACTION

I urged the UK Government to extend the windfall tax on energy companies making huge profits out of the energy crisis, and reinstate the cap on bankers’ bonuses. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the gap between the rich and the poor in the UK, already the most unequal state in Europe, is widening ever further. That companies like BP, which saw quarterly profits rise to £7.1 billion last week, continue to profit from the misery of struggling households and pensioners frightened of freezing to death this winter should be a cause of shame.
