ENERGY SUPPORT FOR BUSINESS - TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE

The UK Government’s new Energy Bill Relief Scheme will provide a discount on wholesale gas and electricity prices for businesses, charities and the public sector for the next six months. Welcome though this action is, it is nonetheless too little, too late and there are widespread concerns that it will result in a cliff-edge in six months’ time.

I called on the UK Government to give further and urgent consideration to providing additional support and especially for energy intensive businesses such as manufacturing and hospitality which are already struggling to stay afloat amid soaring energy costs.
