DISCUSSING MY STATUTORY PAID BEREAVEMENT LEAVE FOR ALL BILL WITH JEREMY KYLE

Many of us have lost a close relative in the midst of the Covid19 pandemic and know all too well the crushing grief that such a loss can bring. While many employers are understanding of such a loss and allow paid leave for staff, unfortunately many do not, and those on lower incomes are less likely to be afforded time off or paid time off to grieve.

I was pleased that my cross-party work in 2018 led to the implementation of statutory paid bereavement leave for all parents who lose a child up to the age of 18, including those who experienced a stillbirth. It is time that this leave was extended to all who lose a close loved one, so that we can all have the right to grieve.

As my Private Member’s Bill approaches its Second Reading in March, I discussed why this measure is necessary with Jeremy Kyle on Talk Radio as I continue to campaign for the expansion of paid bereavement leave to all who lose a close relative.
