DISCRIMINATORY STANDING CHARGES MUST BE SCRAPPED
As households across the UK face an average 80 per cent increase in standing charges for electricity at the end of this week, I urged the UK Government to consider either capping or scrapping these discriminatory charges.
Consumers are already being hit hard by rising energy costs, and these charges, simply to access an electricity supply, will most negatively impact on the poorest and most vulnerable. It is little secret that households here in Scotland pay amongst the highest standing charges in the UK, despite being an energy exporter to the rest of the UK. The UK Government needs to take action to stop the discriminatory practice of charging Scottish household more.
