This week is Dementia Action Week 2022 and I was delighted to meet philanthropist and leading expert in geriatric healthcare, Laurence Geller CBE, to discuss dementia and the challenges it poses for our families and wider society.

The forthcoming Geller Commission will produce pivotal research to accelerate trials for the treatment of dementia.

Across the UK it is estimated that over 850,000 people are living with dementia, of which 1425 live in my constituency of North Ayrshire & Arran, 1.33% of my constituents.

Dementia rates vary across the UK but our awareness of it is still developing even though it is set to affect record numbers of people. It is projected that in the UK, 1.7million people will be living with dementia by 2050.

It is important that research into this awful disease is properly funded and for everyone to have dignity and respect in their old age.
