CHANCELLOR MUST MAKE UNIVERSAL CREDIT UPLIFT PERMANENT

We in the SNP have repeatedly called on the UK Government to ensure the Universal Credit uplift of £20 per week is permanent, to help prevent households falling into debt and financial difficulties. Unfortunately, the Chancellor has refused to guarantee this uplift beyond the end of March 2021. With significant job losses caused by the Covid19 pandemic, more and more families are facing real hardship after a decade of cruel Tory benefit cuts.

I asked the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions whether she believed this uplift should have been extended, however she chose to avoid answering my question.
