CALLOUS AND CRUEL TORY CUT SET TO INCREASE POVERTY

The Tory UK Government’s plan to cut Universal Credit by £20 per week is a disgraceful decision that is set to cause widespread hardship throughout the UK, pushing families into debt and despair. Save the Children estimate that three million children will be affected by this cut, while The Joseph Rowntree Foundation predict it will push half a million people below the poverty line.

I asked the how this callous cut can be squared with the UK Government’s so-called levelling-up agenda. The response was disappointing and shows the Tories are out of touch given that two-thirds of those affected by this cut are in work.
