AFGHANISTAN COLLAPSE THREATENS TALIBAN HEROIN FLOOD

With over 80% of the world’s heroin supply originating in Afghanistan, the country’s Taliban takeover risks having a very real and profound impact on communities across the UK. Heroin and opium account for more than half of the Taliban’s income and the withdrawal of Western countries from the region will remove impediments to the sale and production of heroin.

In response to a statement on the UK Government’s shocking handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, I asked the Prime Minister what action he plans to take with international allies to address this issue, to prevent the hugely damaging consequences this situation could pose to our communities. Sadly the response was disappointing.
