CUT TO AID BUDGET THREATENS COVID RECOVERY

The Covid19 pandemic is truly global in nature, and we will never truly be able to defeat the virus until it is tackled on a global scale. Whilst wealthy countries will be able to roll out a vaccine relatively quickly, poorer countries need support to do so. Wherever in the world this virus is not tackled is a threat to all of us especially if this virus mutates.

I therefore asked the Secretary of State for Health if he agreed that, on both humanitarian and public health grounds, it is indefensible to cut the international aid budget, as announced yesterday, just as a vaccine roll out is set to begin.
