CHANCELLOR CHALLENGED OVER NORTH AYRSHIRE BANKING CRISIS
Following the recent news that TSB plans to shut its bank branches in Kilbirnie, Largs and Saltcoats, continuing the trend of banks abandoning local communities, I challenged the UK Chancellor to introduce banking hubs to address the important matter of financial exclusion in our towns.
North Ayrshire has been hit extremely hard in recent years by bank branch closures, with seven out of the ten towns in my constituency left without any banks at all. Many of my constituents are now forced between the choice of banking online or travelling miles to their “local branch”. Banking regulation lies with the UK Government, and we need progress and decisive action, at long last, on the creation of banking hubs. Our towns deserve no less.
