Volunteers' Week 2020 runs from 1st June to 7th June. This year I am sure we all especially want to thank the armies of people in our communities who are working tirelessly throughout lockdown to befriend, shop, keep in touch with and generally support those who are shielding or who need a bit of extra support during this difficult time. Such work is particularly evident across North Ayrshire and the Isle of Arran.

Volunteers often cannot know how much a difference their efforts make to the lives of the people in their community but the work they do is the fabric that holds our communities together.

During the health pandemic their work has been essential and this week we have a week set aside to especially take the time to recognise them, thank them and applaud them. Therefore, I have lodged an Early Day Motion in the UK House of Commons to do just that. Thank you to all those who selflessly give of their time to make life a bit easier for those who need a bit of support during hard times.
