STROKE AWARENESS MONTH AND COVID19
May is Stroke Awareness Month and since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, hospitals across Scotland have seen a large reduction in the numbers of stroke patients, with A&Es and stroke wards much quieter than usual.
Reports suggest that people are reluctant to call 999 when they see the signs of stroke, either not wishing to burden the health system or fearing contact with the virus in hospital.
This is very concerning – stroke is a medical emergency and the quicker you’re treated, the better your chances of making a good recovery. Delaying access to treatment will likely be causing unnecessary deaths and long-term disability.
Stroke Association - Scotland is keen to ensure that we all understand it’s still important to call 999 and get emergency help if we see signs of stroke. It could save your life or someone else's! Act FAST!
