TESTS ON CITRIODIOL HAS POTENTIAL TO OFFER LAYER OF FRONT-LINE COVID19 PROTECTION

I asked the Ministry of Defence for confirmation of recent reports that the Defence, Science and Technology Laboratory is conducting studies on Citriodiol, a natural ingredient found in insect repellent, derived from the oil of the eucalyptus tree, to test its effect on COVID 19.

The Minister confirmed whilst there is no evidence of its effectiveness against COVID 19, it proved so against SARS, and has therefore been issued to the Armed Forces to be used at their discretion. Tests are ongoing to see whether it may be effective against COVID 19. If it is effective in the battle against Covid19, it needs to be issued to our frontline workers thereafter.
