VICTORY IN EUROPE DAY - 75 YEARS

Today marks 75 years since Victory in Europe (VE)day, the day in 1945 when then prime minister Sir Winston Churchill announced that the war in Europe had come to an end, after Nazi Germany unconditionally surrendered in WW2.

At 11am, across Europe, people across all generations and communities will take part in a national moment of Remembrance and pause for a Two Minute Silence to honour the service and sacrifice of the Second World War generation both on the front line and on the home front.

The horror and brutality of WW2 and the high cost paid by so many across Europe in the fight against fascism must never be forgotten.
