UK GOVERNMENT MUST PRESSURE SAUDI ARABIA ON HUMAN RIGHTS

March 14, 2020

This week, I called on the Leader of the House to set out what he thinks the UK Government can do to effect change on Saudi Arabia’s appalling record on human rights. The UK Government considers Saudi Arabia an important ally and trading partner, yet Saudi women are the property of their eldest male relative, and homosexuality is punishable by death – often by public beheading or crucifixion, of which there were 134 last year.

I was disappointed that the Leader of the House refused to set out any practical measures the UK Government plans to take to pressure the Saudi regime, as without these we will not bring about change.

You can watch the exchange below.
