UK MUST FULLY ENGAGE IN GLOBAL OCEAN TREATY NEGOTIATIONS
I urged the Leader of the House to set out how the UK Government plans to contribute to the Global Ocean Treaty being negotiated by the UN and asked for confirmation that the most senior members of Government will fully participate in these negotiations.
Ocean wildlife is increasingly at risk from overfishing, plastic pollution and rising global sea temperatures. To help combat this, scientists indicate that we need to protect about 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030 by placing areas of oceans off limits to human activity.
