AYRSHIRE POTATO DAY
I had a very interesting afternoon at the Ayrshire Potato Day in Saltcoats today in Saltcoats Town Hall.
Seasoned growers and keen amateurs from the local communities, and much further afield, flocked to this event to search for their favoured species of potatoes. I was introduced to the 'Nicola' variety which is very popular!
I had fun catching up with Maria Paterson-Kidd, George Eric Donohoe, Gwynne Donohoe, Elizabeth Sweeney, Margaret Sweeney and Councillor Davina McTiernan SNP and Three Towns Growers.
I also enjoyed my discussion with Ian Welsh, President of Scottish Allotments and Gardens Society and Malcolm Macqueen of Organic Growers of Fairlie.
