HOUSE OF LORDS IS AN AFFRONT TO DEMOCRACY

I called on the Leader of the House, Jacob Rees-Mogg, to make a statement on why he thinks this unelected, unaccountable chamber is appropriate in a democracy. The House of Lords is populated by retired and rejected MPs and assorted party cronies. The UK is also one of only two countries in the world in which clerics sit on the legislature, the other being Iran.

The Tory benches' reaction to my question clearly struck a nerve for some aspiring peers. There are no signs as yet that either the Tories or Labour Parties are ready to reform this relic from a bygone age, as they continue to stuff it to the gunnels with their own cronies.

You can watch the exchange below.
