GOVERNMENT MUST REVIEW PRISON OFFICER RETIREMENT AGE

I raised concerns with the UK Government to review the retirement age of prison officers. Prison officers serve a vital role and work in extremely challenging conditions, dealing with some of the most violent criminals. However, they are now expected to continue doing this job until they are approaching the age of 70 whilst the retirement age is 60 years old for uniformed emergency officers such as police officers and firefighters.

I called on the UK Government to explain why they feel prison officers must work until they are almost 70, but clearly the Leader of the House was not able to provide this explanation.
