UK GOVERNMENT COMPLICIT IN YEMEN HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

The humanitarian crisis in Yemen is one of the great tragedies of our time with 80% of Yemenis in need of humanitarian assistance. 240,000 civilians are living in famine conditions and 9.8 million are on the brink of famine.

Half of all children in Yemen aged between 6 months and 5 years old are chronically malnourished with an estimated 85,000 children estimated to have already died of starvation.

With the UK Government admitting that it breached for a third time a court order banning the sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia which could be used in violations of international law in the conflict in Yemen, what is required is for the UK to halt all arms sales to the brutal and medieval Saudi Government which continues to wage war on the people of Yemen.

A recent report from the International Relations Select Committee concluded that the UK Government was on “the wrong side of the law” by continuing to sell arms to this barbaric regime.

I urged the UK Government Minister to stop UK Government complicity in the Yemen crisis and halt arms sales to Saudi Arabia immediately.
