SHARE A STORY
As children prepare for the new school term, I am reminded that recently I attended an event recently highlighting the importance of reading, especially for children.
Spending just 10 minutes a day reading and sharing stories with children can make a crucial difference to their language, literacy and imagination and it’s fun for all involved. You can read together anywhere and everywhere, from breakfast to bedtime! In the park, on the train, on the sofa, on a plane – reading and sharing stories can happen anywhere at any time.
Before I was elected to Westminster, I worked as an English Teacher for 23 years and did all I could to encourage my pupils to read, but parents reading with their children can make a big difference to how children engage with reading.
