Once again I raised the issue of unfair delivery charges for rural and island consumers. I have repeatedly raised concerns about this since I was first elected in 2015. This matter is extremely important to my constituents on the Isle of Arran and the Isle of Cumbrae, who face exorbitant surcharges for delivery simply because they live on an island.
It is estimated that around £33 million a year is paid in Scotland on unfair surcharges for deliveries one million consumers in rural Scotland. Online shopping is a growing market, and it is particularly important to rural communities.
I called on the UK Government to finally address this issue, by regulating to stop these exploitative practices, and after years of campaigning it is time the Government finally took effective action to ensure that rural and island communities are no longer routinely penalised for where they live.
