ARTHRITIS AND EMPLOYMENT

I was pleased to be able to take part in a debate on arthritis and employment, highlighting the difficulty people with persistent musculoskeletal conditions face in work, and the effect this has on their lives and the wider UK economy.

In order to reduce the disability employment gap, we must stem the flow of people leaving employment because of a lack of support and do more to promote schemes such as Access to Work.

Many of those living with musculoskeletal conditions want to work, but many simply cannot and this should be recognised. DWP assessors need greater understanding and expertise of arthritis and how it can impact on those living with it.
